With the 1970's fuel crisis in full force
BMW saw the need for a cheap, fuel efficient car. To fill this niche they
created the 1502. This was not a 1.5 litre '02 car as might be suggested,
but rather a de-tuned 1.6 litre car. The body also had a stripped down appearance
(no chrome trim) to reduce cost. The car was produced along side of the
3 series that replaced the '02 for a single year. It was no great performer,
but for whatever reason the '02 has become a classic like no other BMW has.
