The first '02 cabriolet was the 1600 cabriolet. This was the standard 1600-2 with the roor removed completely. The conversion was done by Baur, as has been the case with BMWs from a long time ago until the e30 series.
The 1600 cabriolet was a traditional convertible with the full roof removed. It is a beutiful car with full open air effects, though the car's stiffness is reduced somewhat.
The 2002 cabriolet came in two flavors. Initially the 1600 cab style was followed with the two litre engine, but this lasted for only 200 cars. After this point a "targa" style was adopted. The standard '02 body had a hard, vinyl covered top above the front passengers, a solid steel "hoop" and then a soft rear cover over the back seat. This should improve the structural strength of the body, but the appearance of this car is not up to the standard set by the beautiful 1600 cabriolet.
