Concurrent with the 2000C/CA
BMW gave the TI modifications to the 2 litre engine, put it in the coupe
body and created the 2000CS. The engine moved from a single throat down
draft carburetor to twin two throat side drafts. These carbs are essentially
independent throats feeding each cylinder without any bends--breathing was
greatly improved.
The CS was a solid performer. It wasn't a tremendously fast car, but the
twin carb set up would run quite nicely at high revs and had a great sound.
As with the 2000C/CA the CS had a very refined
interior. My car (I owned a '67) had blue leather (I believe some had vinyl)
seats. All cars had a great wooden dash--significantly more wood than on
the later six cylinder coupes. The rear window were electric, and electric
front windows were and option. The trunk was fully lined (as was that of
the four door sedans but not the 1602/2002 series). Details of the engine
copartment included separate fluid resevoirs for the brakes and clutch and
a "2000CS" plaque on the air filter housing. This latter piece
tended to come loose due to heat and get lost.
